AURAT! AURAT!! AURAT (Ismat Apa Ke Nam III) the name of the next play by Motley Productions is enough to tell the viewers that it will not only be packed with power performances but will have an unmistakable feminist tone to it.

The wonderful play directed by none other than Naseeruddin Shah will contain segments from Ismat Chugtai's autobiography, and the essays, Ek Shauhar ki Khaatir, Aadhi Aurat Aadha Khwaab & Soney ke Anda. Chugtai, who has been a trendsetter in more ways than one remains a revered name in theater circles in the sub continent. The ideas of feminism floated by her continue to find resonance in the contemporary world. Talking about the inestimable contribution of Ismat Apa, as she is fondly remembered in the artist circles, Naseeruddin Shah says, "One is tempted to believe that the charges of obscenity levelled at Ismat were a smokescreen for what actually riled the orthodoxy then and still does. ?Her insistence on female education, her dismissal of superstition, her irreverence for tradition, her contempt for misogyny and her assertion of her identity as a human. The self appointed custodians of religion attempted in vain to condemn and thus silence her but it is our good fortune that Ismat Apa continued on her merry way all her life, enraging the greybeards with her lacerating observations of life around her."

As a fitting tribute to the trend that she started, where women were encouraged to rightfully demand their rights, the cast of this new play will be all women.
