To tell uncomfortable stories and bring the lesser talked about truths in the society out in public requires guts --- something that the mother-daughter duo of Aparna Sen and Konkana Sen Sharma have been doing with great gumption. Both actors and filmmakers who have directed films that have been acclaimed for their unique perspectives have in a way channeled a trend of fearless story telling through the medium of movies in India. While Aparna Sen has directed films such as 36 Chowringhee Lane, Paroma, Mr & Mrs Iyer, 15 Park Avenue and many more. Konkana has played many fearless characters and has also recentlt directed the much-appreciated film Death in the Gunj.
In a Mumbai Local session - a platform that monthly invites artists to come share their vision and experiences with the public the two will be talking about their craft.
In this Mumbai Local, Aparna Sen and Konkona Sen Sharma will discuss what it takes to bring out the story you feel must be told. What does it demand of them as people, as artists? When they know a film is bound to elicit a reaction, what do they do? In their filmmaking and around it? And do they see any change in the openness of the environment to dealing with socially uncomfortable topics
