First Edition Arts was an art company set up back in 2014 with a vision to fuse a new life into the classical music scene in India. Now in its fifth year since its inception the company is back this year with an exciting line up for classical music lovers in the country.
To channelize new energies into the program while many new events are planned but the music lovers can start by looking forward to two promising concerts to be held in Mumbai over the weekend. Carnatic musician and writer T. M Krishna will be presenting Karnatic Kattaikuttu at the CSMVS and Aikya - Celebrating the oneness of music at St. Andrew's auditorium. Both of these programs are new collaborations and also on board are a host of new actors as well as musicians to complement the program.
While Karnatic Kattaikkuttu is a unique collaboration between two different art forms namely Karnatic music, which is a world renowned classical music from South India. The other genre is Kattaikkuttu, a form of movement based, Tamil language folk. Playwright and director P Rajagopal who is a legendary Kuttu actor conceptualized the program. Talking about the program TM Krishna says, "This is a conversation between two art forms that occupy different spaces in Tamil social hierarchy. Through this experiment, we explore our meeting points, at the same time recognise our respective aesthetic distinctiveness. We also hope to rekindle the musical links that Kattaikkuttu and Karnatic music have had in the past. Art is a passageway through which we can understand the cultures of people who participate in various art forms,"
