The pride marches around the world set the ball rolling for a new kind of awareness when it comes to LGBTQ community. In a new millennial trend, often seminars, talks and programs are held to create a greater understanding and sensitivity towards the subject. Mumbai's NCPA, the premier destination for theatre and performing arts has tied up with Kali Billi Productions to celebrate the Pride Month.
This time around Sangeet Bari will be a part of the celebrations for Pride Month. Amongst the programs listed for the event is a special presentation called Lavani.
The traditional dance form from the state of Maharashtra, Lavani is not only a symbol of rich cultural heritage but is also an extremely engaging form of presentation. It creates a direct connection between the performer and the audience. The artist through their expressions, movements or abhinaya strike a conversation with the audience. Unfortunately this rich dance form has not been explored properly in the mainstream and is often reduced as an item number.
The Lavani at NCPA will be performed by Anand Satam and Ashimik Kamthe. The audience will be treated to a free-flowing gender fluid presentation making it a unique offering.
