Interview: Rahul Da Cunha - THE MAN BEHIND THE AMUL ADVTS On His New Play ImageThat Rahul da Cunha is a man of many talents may be an old news. He's the man behind the famous Amul advertisements. A legacy he inherited from his father. The director of one of country's most reputed ad agencies he is also a playwright besides directing plays.

With more than a dozen successful plays to his profile da Cunha is now back with SingIndiaSing, India's first reality show based musical.

Rahul da Cunha shares with BWW his thoughts about the show and theatre in India

1. Talk to us about SingIndia Sing. It is an unprecedented concept in many ways. Why do you think it should work?

SingIndiaSing is the first of its kind original musical - one that is reality show talent contest - India has never witnessed an original ground up musical before, audiences will watch great spectacle and hear musical that encompasses rock, rap, R n B, pop, Bollywood and more.

2. Do you feel that India with its varied history of songs and dances has remarkably produced very few musicals on stage. What has been the reason and are you in a way trying to fill up that space too?

It is true we have had too few stage musicals - that too the ones that have been staged have been Broadway remakes - ours stems from our own stories and realities - creation of musicals is tough - Bugs Bhargava Krishna and I took six years to write it. And then the maestro Clinton Cerejo composed the 28 songs in two years

3. Why would you say audiences should watch SingIndiaSing

Audiences should watch it because it's new, it's fresh, it's original, the songs are great, the music is fab and the story is identifiable

4. Tell us about your innings with Aadyam

This is my second play with Aadyam. The first being The Siddhus of Upper Juhu in 2015 - I believe that Aadyam has changed the way we produce and promote theatre today in the county. I feel very comfortable and happy when one of my plays is an Aadyam production - I know that it will be supported brilliantly. My innings with them has been very fulfilling.
