Feature: REMEMBERING SATYADEV DUBEY The Legendary Theatre Artist ImageSatyadev Dubey one of the most legendary names in the history of Indian theatre is both revered and remembered for his inestimable contribution to performing arts.

His sudden demise a few years ago, left a void in the theatre world. His legacy continues and the work he did for Hindi theatre is counted amongst the finest.

As a fitting tribute to the master, earlier this year, the younger generation of Indian theatre organized a series of events remembering him on his 82nd birth anniversary.

The city of Mumbai, reflected the theatre artists craft and thought with a day long event. The event that was organized by his long-time student and a celebrated theatre artist Hidayat Sami, showed various plays and programs that his students had been organizing ever since Dubey's demise in 2011.

The series of programs showcased included thought-provoking and critically appreciated plays. The day opened with Paanchwa Sawaar, written by Balraj Pandit and directed by Rajesh Singh. Serving as the perfect opening act, the day progressed to show more such engaging formats and the second act of the show Krapp's Last Tale written by none other than Samuel Beckett and directed by Ganga Dev Riar won many hearts. As the evening progressed one al.so got to see 1 Ka 3 by Trishla Patel. The Way I See It and Tamasha Theatre's Soul were the other highlights of the day.

The students and theatre veterans both remembered Dubey for his straight talk and mastery over the craft. Legends such as Naseeruddin Shah were amongst some of Dubey's earliest students.

While the legacy lives on to see the impact his life created in the art world was a truly satisfying experience.
