A noble effort to raise funds through the medium of powerful form of theatre received an overwhelming response in India. In Gurgaon, a bustling suburb of the capital city of Delhi, a theatre performance helped raise funds for cervical cancer awareness.

The event was a part of a partnership between cancer awareness organization CAPED and theatre director Ritu R. Chandra's musical titled 'I Have A Dream'. Interestingly the play is an adaptation of the world famous 2009 movie musical Mama Mia which incorporates the popular songs of the group ABBA, and is told in a humorous and engaging way through the characters of four strong women. "I Have a Dream" is a popular song by Swedish pop group ABBA that was part of the musical.

The musical opened at Apparel House, Gurgaon and will be staged for a few more shows. As performing art is increasingly attracting a large number of city slickers, the idea was an instant hit and managed to attract audiences from all age groups. The proceeds raised from the event will help create awareness about cervical cancer in women, which is alarmingly affecting a large number of Indian women. According to a report published in the Indian Journal of Medical and Paediatric Oncology, approximately 132,000 women in India are diagnosed with cervical cancer and 74,000 lose their battle to the disease each year, accounting to nearly 1/3rd of the global cervical cancer deaths.

The story of 'I Have A Dream' musical aims to give a simple message of live and let live. In the times today the message told through a medium of powerful art that touches a chord is one the extremely effective ways to talk to the audiences.

'I Have A Dream' musical begins its run at Apparel House on April 7, 2017 and the last show is on 9th April 2017 Tickets are available at www.bookmyshow.com

The proceeds of the show will be utilized in creating awareness on and early detection of cervical cancer in India.
