If you grew up in India during the 1980's you would know what enigma actress Deepti Naval brought to the screen. The dusky, petite actress, a fire-brand of talent gave a new meaning to art cinema by her sensitive portrayals. Naval is amongst the actors in Indian cinema who can not be tied to a certain genre. If she was cathartic in art cinemas, she exuded innocence and charm in some of the most romantic hits during the 80's. In more recent times, she continues to redefine Indian cinema with her work as a writer and director.
It is quite befitting then that during the month of April, NCPA in Mumbai chose to run a film retrospective on Deepti Naval. From her more recent Listen Amaya to the classic cult movie Chashme Buddoor, Deepti Naval fans have more than one reason to head to NCPA this summer.
