Peasant Opera at Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre

The students of Budapest Operetta and Musical Theatre's acting school, Pest Broadway Studio, created this production first under the direction of Tamás Földes. Due to its resounding success, from January 2013, it is going to be presented regularly on our Studio Stage.

Béla Pintér's and Benedek Darvas's play, this ‘modern ballad' is a fantastic medley of baroque opera recitatives and Transylvanian Hungarian folk melodies.

"The story is going to be familiar to many. My grandmother always told me that it is a story of people who had lived near Szabadszállás a long-long time ago. Please forgive me for saying no more about it, except that it revolves around ill-fated people and covers such topics as passion, humour, incest, and murder. If you like it, watch it repeatedly. If you don't like it, watch yourself!" - said Béla Pintér.
