What did our critic think of THE LAST FIVE YEARS at Karinthy Theatre, Budapest?

At the closing ceremony of the 2022/23 season of the Hungarian State Opera, recently reappointed general director Szilveszter Ókovács presented the prestigious Chamber Singer and Étoile awards, and announced 27-year-old Martin Rajna, one of the most outstanding young conductors emerging from Hungary as principal conductor.

'Shattered, abandoned, dead...' is the title of the new permanent exhibition of the Hungarian State Opera opened in the basement of the building.  It commemorates 83 artists and employees who were dismissed and deported due to their descent during the Holocaust. The exhibition is open to visitors at 4 p.m. every Saturday and Sunday from 14 January 2023.

From Easter to Midsummer’s night, Budapest and Hungary will become a celebratory meeting point for theatrical world. 200 companies from 35 countries will come to Hungary between 1st April and 1st July 2023 for the 10th International Theatre Olympics.

The biggest live charity concert in Romania will take place on 12 March at the National Arena, Bucharest in aid of those struggling amid the on-going crisis in neighbouring Ukraine. The upcoming event will be meticulously organized by the joint forces of SAGA Festival, PRO TV, KISS FM and the City Hall of Bucharest. 

The paid stream series of the Hungarian State Opera is to continue with Don Juan, a choreography by a renowned personality of the French dance scene, Thierry Malandain. The production that premieres online on 6 March 2021, at 8:00 p.m. CET and is available for one night only, is his first collaboration with the Hungarian National Ballet.

Veteran actress Sally Kirkland will lead a masterclass for the students of The International Acting Studio (TIAS) in Belgrade, Serbia on Monday, February 22nd.

Budapest Festival Orchestra has split into small groups and headed around the city throughout the month of June to perform in the courtyards of apartment blocks around Budapest.
