Kicking off a series of projects geared toward raising awareness for local service organizations, Mildred’s Umbrella Theater Company (MU) is bringing a reading of Terrance McNally’s MOTHERS AND SONS to Chelsea Market Theater on December 1, 2018 for World AIDS Day. The reading will be a benefit for local AIDS/HIV Hospice Care Center Omega House and will be accompanied by a brief question and answer following the show.
MOTHERS is the critically acclaimed follow up to McNally’s 1988 work, Andre’s Mother, and builds on that play’s plot of an estranged mother attending her son’s funeral after he has died from AIDS. In the second chapter, the mother, Katharine, returns to New York to deliver her son Andre’s journal to his former partner Cal and the encounter re-opens old wounds not just between Cal and Katharine, but between Cal and his new husband, Will.
“We are so proud to kick off our Partners for A.R.T.T. program with this show in support of Omega House,” said Managing Director, Rebecca Ayres. “Not only is it a fantastic and touching piece of theater, but we can help raise awareness and funds for a wonderful organization in honor of World AIDS Day.”
MOTHERS AND SONS runs for one night only, December 1, 2018, at Chelsea Market Theater, nestled between the Museum District and Montrose. A brief question-and-answer session with the actors, director, and representatives from Omega House will follow the reading. Tickets are pay-what-you-can and all proceeds benefit Omega House and their efforts. Tickets may be purchased online at www.mildredsumbrella.com.
