Houston Grand Opera will present a new production of Verdi’s Il trovatore, directed by Stephen Wadsworth, opening on October 18, 2024. The opera unfolds in modern Spain and tells the story of Azucena, a woman seeking revenge against the backdrop of a divided country, with her son Manrico caught in a fierce rivalry for the love of Leonora. The cast includes Raehann Bryce-Davis as Azucena, Ailyn Pérez as Leonora, Michael Spyres as Manrico, and Lucas Meachem as Count di Luna, all accompanied by Maestro Patrick Summers. The performances will run until November 3, 2024, at the Wortham Theater Center.
