Set in 1940 at the Academy Awards Ceremony, Hattie Mc Daniel was the first African American to receive a nomination for the coveted "Oscar".McDaniel would go on to win the award that night but not without facing apprehension, anxiety, and segregation at the ceremony itself.Hattie Mc Daniel was the mother of Black Hollywood during the 1930's and 1940;s but she desperately wanted to have a child of her own.
