Hattie's Big Night reenacts the 1940 Academy Awards ceremony in which Hattie Mc Daniel became the first African American to win an Oscar. Though Mc Daniel was the Supporting Actress Winner for her performance in the movie "Gone with the Wind" that night, she was still forced to sit at a segregated table in the back of the room with her date and agent.
