Shabach Enterprise presents the first of its new series of full-length productions written by African-American playwrights.
Awarded “Editor's Pick for Best Original Play” (2013), Broadway World, Fly In The Windshield is loosely based on actual interviews conducted with a group of brave men completing their 90-day faith-based drug rehabilitation program. The play was inspired by their trials and triumphs over substance abuse. Houston based theatre director, Curtis Von, has been chosen to direct.
Synopsis:
"Go Nowhere Alone. Handle No Money. Be Accountable for Your Time. Attend Church."
Pastor Raymond Greer has turned his life around and now runs an extremely successful men's drug rehabilitation program within in his church. The program cost no money but is far from free. Over the next 90 days, six wayward men transform from strangers to brothers while they set out to accomplish the impossible, holding on to the one tie that binds: The desire to be free...and to be clean.
The production stars (in order of appearance): Byron Jacquet, Dave Shepard, Terrance Mays, Omar Lewis, Brandon Morgan, Jimmy Vollman, Alex Franco and Kenneth Mayes.
About the playwright:
S. Denise O'Neal, a resident of Houston, TX, is the Executive Director of Shabach Enterprise and founder of Fade To Black, a groundbreaking national play festival celebrating the new works of African-American playwrights. Her latest project was written to remind us of the transforming power of faith, the determination and strength of the human spirit and, with a little help from our friends, the ability to succeed where others have failed. Most recently, Fly In The Windshield was selected for the National Black Theatre Festival in September 2017 and held its staged reading at Queensbury Theatre in December 2017. O'Neal is a member of the Dramatist Guild of American and is very active in the theatre community.
Four performances run August 16-19, 2018 at MATCH Theater, (Matchbox 3), 3400 Main Street, Houston, TX 77002.
Thursday - Saturday performances start at 8:00 pm. Sunday matinee performance starts at 3:00 pm.
