Da Camera of Houston's 201819 jazz series concludes with "Dizzy Atmosphere: Dizzy Gillespie at Zero Gravity," a one-of-a-kind tribute to John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie developed by trumpeter and composer Dave Douglas. Douglas and a powerhouse group of improvisors and composers use the repertoire of the famed jazz trumpet virtuoso as the starting point for improvisation and exploration. In Houston, the ensemble includes David Adewumi, trumpet; Fabian Almazan, piano; Matthew Stevens, guitar; Linda May Han Oh, bass; and veteran drummer Joey Baron, who has performed with a wide range of jazz musicians including Gillespie himself.
