Da Camera of Houston joins forces with renowned American composers and musicians for Ashberyana: A Musical Celebration of Poet John Ashbery," a concert that celebrates Ashbery's legacy with works that reflect his playfulness, wit and humor. John Ashbery (19272017), recognized as one of the greatest 20th-century American poets, developed close ties to Da Camera and the organization's artistic director, Sarah Rothenberg, beginning in the 1990s. The program includes John Zorn's Girls on the Run, Joan Tower's Holding a Daisy and Or like a...an Engine, Josquin des Pres/Charles Wuorinen's Josquiniana for string quartet; Erik Satie's Three Distinguished Waltzes of a Jaded Dandy and Charles Wuorinen's Ashberyana along with readings from the poet's work.
