Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) is thrilled to announce the schools who will be participating in the 2018 Tommy Tune Awards!

As the administrative body of the Tommy Tune Awards, TUTS is honored to shine a light on some of the incredibly talented young artists who call Houston home. The 45 schools who signed up to participate in this year's Tommy Tune Awards Program are examples of the palpable difference arts education makes in the Houston community. Throughout the next six months, TUTS will share some of the experiences these students experience along this journey. To learn more about the Tommy Tune Awards, the schools and their productions visit TUTS.com/TommyTuneAwards.

Here are the 2018 Tommy Tune Awards participating schools and productions:

The winners will be announced at a Tony-Awards?-style ceremony on April 17, 2018 at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts. The event will highlight musical numbers from the nominated shows and celebrate this community of performers, directors, choreographers, orchestras and designers.

In addition to the awards ceremony, the Tommy Tune Awards Program awards scholarships to graduating seniors who plan to pursue a career in the arts. Applications for scholarships will be available on the Tommy Tune Awards page on December 1, 2017.

Since its inception in 2002, the Tommy Tune Awards Program has celebrated the educational value, artistry, and community of high school musical theatre in the Greater Houston area. Throughout the 2017-18 school year, the judges will evaluate each participating school's show, focusing on each element of the production. The judges are made up of group of Houston-based theatre professionals who have backgrounds as performers, designers, directors, choreographers, and musicians; and who have years of experience working in arts education and administration.

The Tommy Tune Awards are named for Broadway legend, Houston native and Lamar High School alumnus Tommy Tune. A performer, director and choreographer with more than 50 years of stage experience, Tune received nine Tony Awards for his work in the following productions: Seesaw, My One and Only, A Day in Hollywood/A Night in the Ukraine, Nine, Grand Hotel and The Will Rogers Follies. He was also awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2003 by President Bush.

Theatre Under The Stars thanks The Brown Foundation, Inc., Marsha and David Taylor and the Vivian L. Smith Foundation for their generous support of the Tommy Tune Awards.

The Tommy Tune Awards ceremony is open to the general public. For information on the 2017 Tommy Tune Awards ceremony, call (713) 558-2640 or visit TUTS.com/TommyTuneAwards.
