Theatre Under The Stars will continue its tradition of performing free to the public each summer with its presentation of Yankee Doodle Dandy. The production recounts the life of showman George M. Cohan, the first giant of American musical theatre, as he experiences the trials and tribulations of the entertainment industry.

A dynamic showbiz saga, Yankee Doodle Dandy offers an intimate portrayal of “the man who owned Broadway.” In real life, Cohan started performing in his teens and wrote more than 50 Broadway musicals and dramatic plays before his death from cancer at age 64. He wrote more than 500 songs during his career, many of which are now part of the American musical landscape. Join TUTS for the musical version of Cohan’s sometimes upbeat, and other times gritty, life. Filled with jaw-dropping tap dance numbers and unforgettable tunes like “Give My Regards To Broadway” and “Over There,” the entire family will love Yankee Doodle Dandy.

Free tickets for the covered seats are available on the day of performance between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Miller Theatre Box Office.  Free tickets are limited to four per person.  Any tickets remaining will be given out one hour before curtain.  Don’t want to wait in line?  For each $50 tax-deductible donation to TUTS, the organization will set aside two reserved tickets under the covered pavilion so you may enjoy the show and experience how your generosity makes the music happen.  At 8 p.m., any unfilled seats will be released to the general public.  Contact Seth Malin at 713-558-2656 or Seth@TUTS.com to take advantage of this opportunity.  No tickets?  No problem!   Bring a cozy blanket or lawn chair and enjoy the show from the Miller Theatre lawn, the perfect place for a picnic and a show!
