Based on the best-selling novel by Chaim Potok (The Chosen), My Name is Asher Lev is a new American play set in Brooklyn. It tells the powerful story of a boy prodigy who must be an artist at any cost - against the will of family, community and tradition. This journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his Hassidic upbringing and his desperate need to fulfill his artistic promise. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith. This stirring adaptation of a modern classic presents a heartbreaking and triumphant vision of what it means to be an artist. It is a luminous portrait of a young artist with a universal theme to follow our passion.
The play features the young man Asher Lev (Adam Gibbs) and one female actress who portrays
Rivkeh Lev (Kara Greenberg) his mother and others; and one additional actor who portrays his father Aryeh Lev (Bradley Winkler), the artist Jacob Cohn and other male characters.
