The Houston Symphony will visit their favorite summertime performance spot, Miller Outdoor Theatre, for a FREE fall concert on Saturday, October 13. Presented by the Mexican Institute of Greater Houston, Lunada is an annual concert that celebrates the sounds and energy of Latin American music. Guest Conductor Brett Mitchell will lead the orchestra through this vibrant celebration with music, which includes Bernstein's Overture to West Side Story, Chabrier's España and Debussy's Ibéria from Images.
Two winners of the Houston Symphony's 2012 Young Artist Competition will add to the evening's performance. From a pool of 80 applications with styles ranging from jazz and musical theatre to opera and gospel, violinist Dominique Hammons and vocalist Jordan Harrington will perform during Lunada representing two of the five winning acts that were chosen during live auditions on February 25 at Jones Hall. Harrington is a 2012 graduate of Kingwood Park High School and is currently a freshman pursuing a degree in Music Performance at Louisiana State University. Hammons is a 2012 graduate of the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and is currently a freshman pursuing a degree in Music Performance at The University of Oklahoma.
