Just in time for the New Year and New Year's resolutions, The Health Museum introduces its 2017 Mindfulness Class schedule for kids, teens and adults.
Geared towards teaching participants to pay attention to the present moment with openness, curiosity and kindness, mindfulness classes have been proven to reduce stress, lessen suffering from anxiety, depression and physical pain, boost the immune system, improve an individual's sense of well-being, and actually change the structure and function of the brain.
"Mindfulness classes are a great way to begin the year. Not only for adults newly-committed to resolutions, but also for children returning to school, and teenagers going through this important stage in their lives," said Dr. Melanie Johnson, president and CEO of The Health Museum, in a press statement. "It's a great experience for the entire family, and one we're proud to offer once again."
Mindfulness classes at The Health Museum will be led by Dr. Ann Friedman, a licensed psychologist who has served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Counseling Psychology Graduate Program for the past 10 years. Used as a therapeutic technique, mindfulness is a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations.
