The Grand presents YAMATO The Drummers of Japan, 2/24 ImageOn Saturday, February 24. 2018 at 8pm, The Grand 1894 Opera House presents YAMATO - The Drummers of Japan, two-thousand-years of Samurai, Shinto meditation, and sake surging through the muscles and motion of an energetic troupe of young drummers.

Since their beginnings in 1993, the electrifying Yamato Drummers of Japan have learned, lived, and perfected their art of performing together on beautiful Nara Prefecture in Japan, said to be the birthplace of Japanese culture. Yamato travels all over the world with Japan's traditional Wadaiko drums, putting its very souls into the unusual instruments, whose sound stirs the hearts of people everywhere. Their new live stage show, "Chousensha" - The Challengers," combines great originality and innovation for the sheer joy of making music, in what has been critically acclaimed as "a theatrical experience delivered with balletic grace and infectious humor."

This performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grand 1894 Opera House is located in Galveston's historic downtown Cultural Arts District, and is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the State of Texas."
