On Friday, October 27 at 8 pm, The Grand 1894 Opera House presents. Nosferatu, a 1922 silent, horror film classic accompanied live by organist Rob Landes. Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com.

Prepare yourself for another "Howling Halloween" as Galveston favorite Rob Landes performs live organ accompaniment to one of the influential early masterpiece of cinema. Nosferatu is the 1922 German Expressionist horror film, directed by F. W. Murnau and starring Max Schreck as the vampire Count Orlok. The film was an unauthorized adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 novel, Dracula, with names and other details changed because the studio could not obtain the rights to the book.

Stoker's "vampire" became "Nosferatu" and "Count Dracula" became "Count Orlok" in the film. Stoker's heirs sued over the adaptation, and a court ruling ordered that all copies of the film be destroyed. However, a few prints of Nosferatu survived, and the film came to be regarded as an influential masterpiece of cinema. The film was released in the United States in June 1929, seven years after its original premiere in Germany, where it instantly became a hit. Rob Landes' evocative musical score is the perfect complement to this silent film classic at The Grand!
