The Texas Rep Theatre Co., Houston's Uptown Classic Theatre, continues a tradition of theatrical excellence in it's Ninth season with Neil Simon's remarkable and relevant comedy The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue. Directed in a new production by Rachel Mattox and featuring a stellar cast of Houston's finest performers, The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue will preview tonight, January 29th, celebrate is Gala Opening on January 30th, and run 4 performances a week through February 23rd.
Heat waves. Garbage strikes. Noisy neighbors. Burglars. No place dishes it out quite like New York City, and with his job hanging by a thread, Mel Edison is in no mood to grin and bear it. Sparkling with Simon's usual wit and fueled by a still-resonant battle with the dehumanizing effects of modern city life, this comedy classic pits Mel and his steadfast wife Edna against an assault by 1970s Manhattan-and it's anybody's guess who'll win. A famously funny play that is as relevant today as it was when Neil Simon penned it, The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue is a perfect opportunity to laugh at life... and to be inspired by it as well.
The Texas Repertory Theatre production of The Prisoner of 2nd Avenue features Texas Rep company members LIsa Thomas- Morrison, Alan Hall, Marcy Bannor, and Texas Repertory Artistic Director Steven Fenley, as well as Ellen Perez and Martha Doolittle making their Texas Repertory Theatre debut under the direction of tor Rachel Mattox. Performing in its 9th anniversary season, The Texas Repertory Theatre Co. has become one of Houston's premiere theatrical venues, and continues to offer year-round seasons of plays and musicals to the deserving audiences of NW Houston.
