Following an award-winning second season, Stark Naked Theatre Company's highly-anticipated third season opens on October 11th with the regional premiere of All Girls-directed by Julia Traber and featuring Houston-favorite Kim Tobin--in a hilarious and thought-provoking new play about friendship, fitting-in, and the joy and pain of growing up. Written by up-and-coming New York-based actor and playwright Anna Greenfield, the play was well-received by audiences and critics alike in its world premiere earlier this year at New York's Kraine Theatre. Previewing October 10th, opening October 11th and running until October 26th, performances will be held Thursdays through Sundays (with a special "Pay What You Can" performance on October 21st) at STUDIO 101 located at Spring Street Studios, 1824 Spring St. in Houston, TX 77007.
Hailing All Girls as both "hilarious and moving", Show Business Weekly notes that "women will relate to the emotional whiplash of adolescence that 'All Girls' confronts." Likewise describing the emotional pull of the play, theatre critic Christine Schmidt of the New York Theatre Review wrote that "I thought I had wanted to keep the memories of my early teenage years buried deep, but watching them unfold again before my eyes years later was alarmingly cathartic. All Girls made me remember the brutality, fear, and uncertainty of growing up, but also the sweetness of the last bits of innocence that I had buried...See All Girls. Its good to remember."
Stark Naked Theatre Company is also proud to continue its innovative collaboration with Houston's talented visual arts community by combining live theatre with an equally powerful visual arts experience. In order to provide its audiences with the opportunity to further explore the highly relevant themes of All Girls, Stark Naked Theatre is sponsoring a corresponding art exhibition entitled Finding Self: An All-Woman Art Show. The exhibit features a range of media and will be curated by award-winning local artist dianne k webb (Stark Naked's in-house Art Coordinator). Finding Self: An All-Woman Art Show is available for viewing one hour in advance of each performance show time, with complimentary admission for All Girls ticket holders.
