Stageworks Theatre announces Bonnie and Clyde, as its sixth show this season. Directed by Michael Montgomery, the musical will open April 20 and close May 13. With music by Frank Wildhorn (Jekyl and Hyde, Civil War), lyrics by Don Black (Sunset Boulevard, Dracula), and book by Ivan Menchell, the show is destined to impress.
At the height of the Great Depression, Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow went from two small-town nobodies in West Texas to America's most renowned folk heroes and Texas law enforcement's worst nightmares. Fearless, shameless and alluring, the Tony-nominated Bonnie & Clyde, from the legendary Frank Wildhorn, is the electrifying story of love, adventure and crime that captured the attention of an entire country.
Montgomery is excited for Stageworks to bring this story to Houston and tell it in their own unique way.
"Although most of us from Texas know the story of Bonnie & Clyde, it's exciting to approach a musical that is not well-known. It provides our production team a blank slate to story-tell, without many artistic prejudices.
"This show is anchored by jazzy country-tilted music that underscores the notorious couple's story. You may leave the theatre with a different opinion about these two highly-romanticized and tragic figures. Were they romantic? Where they evil? Perhaps victims of circumstance and choices?"
Starring in this thrilling story is Elizabeth Curtin (Bonnie Parker), JT Fischer (Clyde Barrow), Amanda Hart Bassett (Blanche Barrow), and Josef Anderson (Buck Barrow).
Supporting Montgomery behind the scenes, the production team includes, Patrick Barton (Assistant Director), Adam Delka (choreography), Sam Brown (music direction), Lisa Garza (scenic design), Julie Montgomery and Barbara Terry (costume design), Jennifer Stewart (Styling, Makeup and Wigs), Nathan Crooks (Stage Manager), David Dean (Sound Design), Ron Putterman (Lighting Design), Joseph Reyes (Properties), and Aaron Sneesby (Master Carpenter).
Don't miss the chance to see Texas' most notorious lovers and outlaws take the country by storm in this sexy and compelling musical.
