After 38 years, Main Street Theater owns their building and they need a facelift -- specifically they need to get rid of the pole in the middle of the stage. And bigger restrooms. So, they sang about it. Click below to watch their plea to the tune of "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria?" from The Sound of Music!
Main Street Theater's Times Boulevard building is the primary venue for our Equity MainStage productions as well as an important location for classes, productions and camps for our Education Department. Re-purposed by the company over thirty years ago from a former laundry and dry cleaners, the facility on Times Blvd. has numerous drawbacks which MST was never able to address, since MST did not own the building. Now they've put the downpayment on the building, and they are ready to renovate.
The major renovation will include the public restrooms, dressing rooms, a mezzanine rehearsal/classroom space, and a new, higher roof over the entire property, enabling us to eliminate the poles in the middle of the stage and liberate our scenic and lighting designers. The renovation will cost $1,175,000, and MST's goal is to have the funding in hand by October 1, 2013. This would allow MST to begin renovation in January 2014.
