Main Street Theater presents the hilarious play Buyer & Cellar by Jonathan Tolins. This show is "an irresistible one-man play from the most peculiar of fictitious premises... This seriously funny slice of absurdist whimsy creates the illusion of a stage filled with multiple people, all of them with their own droll point of view," said the New York Times. Doug Atkins, who has done the show once before Ft. Worth, will bring it to life for Houston.
Buyer & Cellar has 2 preview performances: Thursday and Friday, July 12 and 13 at 7:30pm. The production opens Saturday night, July 14 with The Babs Buyer & Cellar Bash, a fundraiser for the theater, and runs through August 12 at MST - Rice Village, 2540 Times Blvd.
Performances are Thursdays - Saturdays at 7:30pm and Sundays at 3pm. Tickets are $36 - $45, depending on date, section, and availability. Tickets for The Babs Buyer & Cellar Bash are $50 and $75. All tickets are on sale via phone at 713.524.6706 or online at MainStreetTheater.com.
Alex More has a story to tell. As a struggling actor in L.A., he takes a dayjob working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar (a-hem, Barbra Streisand!!). One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their connection ever make it upstairs in the real world? Buyer & Cellar is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the love-hate relationship between gay men and divas, and the oddest of odd jobs. Recommended for adults only. "A fantasy so delightful you wish it were true." - The New Yorker "Fantastically funny." - NY Post
Brandon Weinbrenner, who directed last season's Native Gardens, returns to direct the Buyer & Cellar. Doug Atkins plays Alex More.
The production design team and crew include Marcos Everstijn (Set Design), J. Mitchell Cronin (Lighting Design), Rebecca Greene Udden (Costume Design), Janel J. Badrina (Sound Design), and Rodney Walsworth (Properties Design). Julie Marie Paré is the production stage manager.
