Obsidian Theater Executive Director Tom Stell tells BroadwayWorld the his company tagline is "One City, Many Voices." The company, formerly Obsidian Art Space, lives up to this creed in its currently running production THE TROJAN WOMEN wherein the Greek tragedy is set in present-day Africa.
"THE TROJAN WOMEN tells the gripping story of the women the day after Troy fall to the Greeks. The women wrestle with their fate as defeated slaves. With a beautiful modern translation this dramatic play is at once immersive and accessible," says Stell who also directs the piece.
2014 Houston Press Best Actress Qamara Black stars as Troy's Queen, Hecuba. Houston Press Best Supporting Actress nominee Uju Edoziem is Cassandra.
