Obsidian Theatre in association with Standing Room Only Productions brings the cult classic rock musical, HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH, to Houston audiences now through July 1. Obsidian/SRO takes pride in being a local powerhouse for intimate and engaging theater - and this production will be no different. As an homage to the gritty late-night theater it originated as, HEDWIG will have special midnight showings leading up to Houston Pride Festival. BroadwayWorld has a first look a the show below!
HEDWIG is the story of a rock and roll band fronted by the "internationally ignored song stylist", Hedwig, who is the victim of a botched sex change operation. The show daringly breaks the fourth wall, as Hedwig relays her past tribulations and heartbreak in the form of monologues and rock songs. During this unique rock odyssey, Hedwig examines her quest for her other half, for love, and ultimately for her identity.
HEDWIG is the Tony award winning rock musical written by John Cameron Mitchell with lyrics and music by Stephen Trask. HEDWIG's creative team - Director Chris Patton, Choreographer Eric Dano and Stage Manager Lauren Hainley are no strangers to the Obsidian stage or Houston acclaim - having won both the Houston Press and BroadwayWorld awards for Best Musical for their production of "Green Day's American Idiot".
Performances will be June 7 - July 1 at Obsidian Theater, 3522 White Oak, Tickets are available online at www.obsidiantheater.org.
