Vincent Victoria is proud to announce the casting of actress Pashion Duncan as the legendary entertainer Eartha Kitt from ages 45-50 in his upcoming play The Disappearance of Eartha Kitt. Duncan, a versatile singer/actress, has toured in plays across the United States including Lorraine Hansberry's Too Be Young Gifted and Black and works by local favorite Thomas Meloncon.
Actors playing the younger Eartha Kitt and other ensemble characters will be cast after open auditions for the show on October 21.
The new play will make its World Premiere January 18, 2018 at Midtown Art Center/ Houston, Texas 77004, exactly 50 years to the date that Kitt had her infamous Cause célèbre in which she spoke out against the Vietnam War at the White house and allegedly made then First Lady,Lady Bird Johnson, cry.
The Disappearance of Eartha Kitt mainly chronicles the ten year period from 1968-1978 in which Kitt was blacklisted from working in the United States due to her controversial stance on the War.
Victoria says "It is important to remember and acknowledge African American entertainment icons of the not so distant past and the bold political positions that they sometimes took while risking their careers and lives.
Playwright Victoria also wrote about another politically active entertainer Josephine Baker in his play from March, the well received "The Last Night of Josephine Baker".
