Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) has announced its annual summer show performance series at Miller Outdoor Theatre.

First up, the Theatre Under The Stars' Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) will present ONCE ON THIS ISLAND with book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty, playing June 7-10, 2017. Different from previous years, HSMT will be presenting the full-length production for all morning and evening performances.

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is a celebrated tale of love, hope, life and death. This musical, inspired by Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid, follows the life of Ti Moune as she goes on her quest to prove that love is stronger than death. The show is based on the novel My Love, My Love by Rosa Guy.

HSMT's presentation of ONCE ON THIS ISLAND is sponsored in part by the Edward and Helen Oppenheimer Foundation, the Miller Theatre Advisory Board and The Wortham Foundation, Inc.

Later in the summer, Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS) will present PIPPIN, with book by Roger O. Hirson and music & lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, playing July 11-16 2017.

PIPPIN, a circus inspired production, features a troupe of acrobatic performers led by a very charismatic Leading Player. The performers' main purpose is to tell the story of Pippin, a young prince who is longing to find adventure and passion in all areas of his life.

ONCE ON THIS ISLAND and PIPPIN are presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI). All authorized performance materials are also supplied by MTI.

Founded in 1952 by composer Frank Loesser, and orchestrator Don Walker, Music Theatre International (MTI) is one of the world's leading theatrical licensing agencies, granting theatres from around the world the rights to perform musicals from Broadway and beyond. See mtishows.com/about for more about MTI.

Founded in 1972, the Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT) is the nationally-recognized educational wing of Theatre Under The Stars (TUTS). HSMT offers the only technique-based musical theatre training program in the Houston area. Students of all ages may learn the fundamentals through year-round courses, productions, workshops, and master classes. Learn more at TUTS.com/hsmt.

Free tickets for the covered seats are available on the day of the performance between 10:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. at the Miller Theatre box office. Any tickets remaining will be given out one hour before curtain.
