Main Street Theater is announcing a change in the line-up of its 43rd MainStage season, beginning September 2018. The previously announced Trojan War Project, a three-play collaboration with Prague Shakespeare company, will be postponed to a later season. Conor McPherson's The Weir will now open March 16, 2019, and the season will close with a title TBA, pending availability of rights. "After much reflection, we are postponing the Trojan War Project until sometime in the future," shared Rebecca Greene Udden, Executive Artistic Director and Founder of Main Street Theater. "The production represented an enormous financial undertaking, and as we, like so many other arts organizations struggling to recover from this Harvey-cursed year, have to focus on financial sustainability." Additionally, The Book of Will is now set to open a bit later, September 22, 2018. MST will still bring in Canada's La Fille du Laitier and their production of Macbeth Muet.
MST's upcoming MainStage Season reflects the theater's commitment to sharing compelling, thought-provoking and engaging stories from the most insightful and articulate writers for the stage, with an audience eager to connect with a broad spectrum of the human experience. William Shakespeare's enduring influence is addressed in two productions: The Book of Will and Macbeth Muet, a silent, comic version of the Scottish Tragedy told entirely with hand props (not part of the regular season). Jane Austen returns channeled through Gunderson and Melcon's Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, a revival of last season's holiday hit. The Secretary spins a wickedly funny tale about modern gun culture, and the spellbinding The Weir celebrates the very power of storytelling itself.
Main Street's Theater for Youth season is set as well. MST reaches over 130,000 children, educators, and family members yearly through its professional Theater for Youth whose productions are often based on literature children are reading at home or at school. The 2018-2019 season will include Curious George: The Golden Meatball, Mr. Popper's Penguins, Jackie & Me, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, and Goosebumps: The Musical. MST will tour Schoolhouse Rock, Live! across Texas as well.
Subscriptions for both series are on sale now. Patrons can visit MainStreetTheater.com or call 713-524-6706.
