You've never seen a circus like this: a dazzling whirl of acrobats, cyclists, floating trapeze artists, and funambulists dangle and twirl from flying unicycles and a one-of-a- kind pedal-powered apparatus called the Gantry Bike. The New York Times raves: "Exceptional, evocative, eye-catching and grossly entertaining...in a word, excellent."

Cirque Mechanic - the group behind the show PEDAL PUNK - was founded in 2005 by Cirque du Soleil alum Chris Lashua − who from a young age was obsessed with all things bicycle-related, fascinated with the mechanisms of the bike and the synergy between man and machine. The Pedal Punk crew is comprised of 11 clowns, dancers, contortionists, tricksters, and trampoline artists decked out in Victorian hats, goggles, sleeve garters and meticulously groomed facial fair. The show follows the antics of a comical bike mechanic whose eccentric clientele keeps him hopping around like a pedestrian caught in a bike lane. The Pedal Punkers command the wildly eccentric Gantry, a giant, 3,000 pound bicycle-like contraption and its various deconstructed parts, for the show's spectacular, non-stop crazy action. This performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts. It is additionally sponsored in part by Blue Bell Creameries.

For ticket prices and more information, call The Grand's box office at 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or visit The Grand's web site at www.thegrand.com. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, The Grand 1894 Opera House is located at 2020 Postoffice Street in Galveston's historic downtown Cultural Arts District and is recognized as "The Official Opera House of the State of Texas."
