On Friday, March 24, 2017 at 8 pm, The Grand presents internationally renowned "next-generation" percussion ensemble, Scrap-Arts-Music, in their Galveston debut! Tickets may be purchased at The Grand's Box Office, 2020 Postoffice Street, by calling 409.765.1894, 800.821.1894, or online at www.thegrand.com.
Transcending language, culture, and age, Scrap-Arts-Music offers a highly physical, wildly theatrical, and thoroughly entertaining taste of the musical vanguard. Vancouver-based musician/composer Gregory Kozak and architecture-trained Justine Murdy began their collaboration in 1998, creating 145+ tune-able, large-scale, mobile sculptural instruments artfully fashioned from industrial scrap and offbeat materials. They also developed an "action-choreography" style of movement.
Scrap-Arts-Music − the athletic, internationally renowned next-generation percussion ensemble − is comprised of five virtuosic and innovative drummers. They perform on instruments fashioned from industrial scrap and offbeat materials ranging from accordion parts to artillery shells. Their original compositions are as visually striking as they are sonically riveting. Audiences from four continents have welcomed this electrifying quintet with unbridled enthusiasm, embracing their intoxicating mix of music, movement, and spectacle. The performance is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts and Texas Commission on the Arts.
