"IT'S ALIVE!!" in the month of October at least, as Country Playhouse unfurls its first ever "Creature Double Feature" – conCurrent Productions of Frankenstein and Evil Dead: The Musical for three weekends only, October 12 and 27. The Country Playhouse is uniquely suited to stage such a coup de théâtre event, with its two distinctive performance spaces and a team of innovative directors.

Frankenstein will come to life by night on the Cerwinske stage at 7:30, while Evil Dead: The Musical will rise at 10:30 in the Black Box theatre. Shock-worthy special effects -- jolts of stage electricity, spurts of stage blood. Monsters till midnight.

As part of this exciting double bill, Frankenstein director Philip L. Nichols, Jr. is also creating the special prosthetic makeup effects for both shows. A protean talent, Nichols recently wrote and produced the award-winning horror film Renfield: The Undead (now out on DVD), playing the title role as well as crafting its spectacular visual effects. His latest ghastly makeup credits include The Legend of Goat Man and the zombie feature Groundead, shooting in November. Evil Dead: The Musical will be directed by Gene Kato: writer, actor, producer, publisher and proprietor of the Next Stage Press. He directed Pig Farm at Country Playhouse, and is a founding director of Houston's Ohana Theatre Company, soon to premiere Awesome America!, a four-pack of plays, including one by Kato himself and another by Diana Howie, Country Playhouse's Playwright-in-Residence.

For Frankenstein, ticket prices are $22 for adults and $19 for students and seniors; for Evil Dead, prices are $28 and $25. Groups of 20 or more receive a $5.00 discount off each ticket. A monster deal awaits playgoers for both shows on the same night -- $35 and $30, if purchased together. For reservations call 713-467-4497, or online at www.countryplayhouse.org.

The Country Playhouse is located at 12802 Queensbury, Houston 77024, in Town & Country Village, across from City Centre and just two blocks east of the Sam Houston Tollway.
