The Ensemble Theatre elevates the arts featuring an all-female cast in Trey Anthony's 'da Kink in My Hair," music composed by Michael McElroy, Carol Malliard, E'Marcus Harper, and S. Renee Clark; directed by Ensemble Artistic Director Eileen J. Morris; and musical direction by Melanie Bivens.

"I wrote this play out of necessity to see diverse authentic roles on stage," says Anthony. "I wanted to write roles for me, roles that reflect black women, and women in general."

Set in a Brooklyn hair salon, 'da Kink in My Hair gives voice to Black women who tell their unforgettable stories in a kaleidoscope of drumming, singing and dance. It is a testament to the challenges and triumphs in the lives of contemporary Black women, many of whom are immigrants to North America from the Caribbean. Mixing laughter and tears, revelation and inspiration, the unapologetically intense stories of each woman are woven together in this powerful piece.
