DiverseWorks has announced that it will be moving to the MATCH (Midtown Arts and Theater Center Houston) in December 2015. This transition marks an exciting moment in DiverseWorks' 33-year history. The new facility at the MATCH will provide unique opportunities for artists to create work and experiment with new art forms in multiple gallery and theater spaces. DiverseWorks also plans to expand its public outreach and audience engagement initiatives to serve the new and diverse audiences the MATCH location will attract.
Rob Greenstein, President of the Board of Directors for DiverseWorks remarks, "This is an exciting time for DiverseWorks Board, staff, and friends. We have a sparkling new venue to showcase compelling art, and greater visibility and accessibility to foster community and audience engagement. DiverseWorks' time is now."
Xandra Eden, Executive Director and Chief Curator of DiverseWorks states, "The move to the MATCH has been 15 years in the making and I am absolutely thrilled to have played a role in bringing this transition to fruition. We are thankful to the MATCH board and staff, and all those DiverseWorks supporters who helped to guide this effort, including the Brown Foundation, the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, and Coats Rose, P.C."
On Monday, November 9, DiverseWorks will launch its MEET US AT THE MATCH campaign to support its schedule of free exhibitions, performances and public programs in 2016. The campaign will culminate in a thank you party in the MATCH gallery on December 10, 2015. Please visit diverseworks.org for more information and a link to the Indiegogo campaign site, or email jennifer@diverseworks to receive a campaign announcement and brochure.
The Spring 2016 season will open on January 14, 2016 with the exhibition What Shall We Do Next?, organized by DiverseWorks' Associate Curator, Rachel Cook. What Shall We Do Next? investigates the effects of technology, advertising, and consumerism on the human body and includes work in a variety of media by Danielle Dean (Houston), Kristin Lucas (Austin), Julien Prévieux (Paris, France), and the artist collective Guccivuitton (Miami).
