Join DiverseWorks for the opening reception of Keep It Slick: Infiltrating Capitalism with The YesMen!
Considered among the most important political artists of the last dozen years, The Yes Men(Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno) are a group of culture-jamming activists who practice what they call "Identity Correction." By posing as spokespersons for prominent organizations and powerful entities, The Yes Men create spoof websites and appear in conferences and TV shows to highlight how corporations and government organizations often act in dehumanizing ways toward the public. Keep It Slick: Infiltrating Capitalism with The Yes Men exhibits The Yes Men's practice through elaborate costumes fabricated for their bold interventions, slapstick videos and PowerPoint presentations at business conferences, outrageous posters and props, scripts, sketches, research materials and selected publications and ephemera from their personal collections.
Special Thanks to Art Attack, The Art Guys, Stephanie Atwood, J Aubrey Sellers Flowers, Tyler Morris, Saint Arnold Brewing Company for providing the beer at the opening reception, and our wonderful interns-Abi, Blake, Mason, Suleyman, Rachel, Veronica- for all of their hard work!
The opening reception for the exhibit will be held April 30 from 6 to 8PM. The exhibition is organized by Feldman Gallery at Pacific Northwest College of Art and Miller Gallery at Carnegie Mellon University. DiverseWorks is located at 1117 E. Freeway in Houston, TX 77002.
