Stageworks Theatre is proud to bring Disney's Beauty and the Beast to Houston. This romantic take on the classic fairytale will run July 20 through August 12, 2018. Adam Delka directs with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Howard Ashman and Tim Rice, and book by Linda Woolverton. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity. Julie Montgomery, costume designer told us, "This show is definitely one of the most challenging for the costume team! I think you'll love the results, but figuring how to make enchanted objects such as a clock, a wardrobe, and a flower vase definitely stretched us. They are so gorgeous...I can't wait for audiences to see them."
On stage, the talented cast includes, Bryon Gable (Beast), Morgan Montgomery (Belle), Ryan Dineen (Gaston), Taylor Fisher (Lumiere), Jana Ellsworth (Mrs. Potts), Nathan Crooks (Lefou), Greg Herzog (Cogsworth), Adam Traylor (Maurice), Celeste Hendrickson (Madame de la Grande Bouche), and Mandy Kolbaba (Babette). Behind the scenes, the masters at work are Dru Wiser (choreography), Sam Brown (music direction), Lisa Garza (scenic design), Ben Mason (technical director), Amy Hohoulin (properties), Julie Montgomery, Barbara Terry, Copper Paradiso (costuming), Ron Putterman (lighting design), David Dean (sound design), and Michael Montgomery (artistic director and stage manager).
