Devan Wade's Short Plays Take Center Stage in A DYSFUNCTIONAL FAMILY ALBUM, Now thru 11/15

Writer and KTSU 90.9 F.M. radio personality, Devan Wade invites you to experience a variety of theatrical experiences all in one night, on one stage. A Dysfunctional Family Album is a series of short plays and monologues all about the stress, strife and humor of dealing with all that comes with family dynamics.

#ADFA will take place at Express Theatre, for seven performances from today, November 6th - 15th. This unique series of short plays and monologues is the debut effort for Devan, who just completed producing the 24th Annual Scriptwriters-Houston 10x10 Short Play Showcase this summer. Although relatively new to Houston's community theatrical scene, Devan has recruited 15 actors and seven directors whom have combined to produce or perform in hundreds of plays in dozens of venues in and around the Houston-area.

The stellar group of actors and directors involved in A dysfunctional Family Album is headlined by legendary Houston actor, Wayne Dehart, who has been a staple of local theater for decades. Among the other actors involved are Jo Anne Davis-Jones, David Bradley, Mary Masquelette, Tonyai Palmer, Nanesha Dove and Callina Situka, Directors tapped to assist in the project are veterans Errol Wilks and Rachel Dickson, along with Kelvin Douglas, Michelle James, Erika Walton, Eric Christopher Jones and Dabrina Sandifer.

The plays are:

1) FREE TO LOVE
Directed by Rachel Dickson
CYNTHIA, a very accomplished executive, returns to her mother's home after realizing that she is sabotaging her relationship, seemingly replicating familiar behavior. She turns to her mother for answers but doesn't get the response she anticipated.
Starring: Jo Anne Davis-Jones and Damonica Renee

2) AN EGG WELL DONE
Directed by Michelle James
It was love at first sight for STACY, but ROB has already grown bored with her youthful enthusiasm. ROB secretly wants to turn his attention to a more experienced love interest.
Starring: Mary Masquelette and David Bradley

3) ANGRY BLACK WOMAN
Directed by Kelvin Douglas
A satirical look at the unintended effects reality shows have on pop culture and racial perceptions. LAKEISHA has adopted the character attributes and flaws of her favorite reality show vixens. Feeling confused and frustrated, VALENCIA tries to redirect her focus and provide a diverse perspective.
Starring: Hannah Hubbard and Aviar Crawford

4) CHILD CARE COST
Directed by Dabrina Sandifer
SEAN continues to flicker the flames of a fleeting romance with DEANNA, the mother of his child. However, when SEAN tries to continue his carefree lifestyle, DEANNA feels forced to secure their relationship with the threat of an outside presence. Who is manipulating who?
Starring: Nanesha Dove and Brandon Morgan

5) FAMILY DEBT
Directed by Errol Wilks
KOI goes to visit her estranged grandfather, JESSE, trying to resolve her responsibility to family and her right to choose her own path.
Starring: Wayne Dehart and Callina Situka

6) THE CHANEL MONROE REVIEW
Directed by Devan Wade
CHANEL MONROE, an undeniable personality with seemingly unstoppable talent puts on the show of her life.
Starring: Erica Young

7) UNDERACHIEVING ADULTERER
Directed by Eric Christopher Jones
EDWARD has climbed the corporate ladder right to the middle. When his "middleocrity" spills over into an extra-marital affair, his wife LINDA takes issue.
Starring: Kacie Adams and Mark Stanley

8) NOT THIS TIME
Directed by
KURT thought he had a winning hand, a physical relationship with SASHA with no strings attached until he realizes that the tables are turned and he is the one being used.
Starring: Tonyai Palmer and Rolondo Roy Jr.

Devan Wade has written and directed several shorts plays in the past four years, including Pandora Theatre's annual, Vox Feminina. He directed Trombone Trash for the 2013 10x10 Short Play Showcase, before becoming Artistic Director for the 2014 production. In 2000, Devan published Where The Sun Is Not So Bright. He is also a popular radio personality for KTSU-Choice 90.9 Houston, where he is the host of The Friday Express and Sports Talk with Devan Wade which airs weekly.
