One morning, in 1992, commuters were treated to a different kind of holiday cheer on National Public Radio's "Morning Edition". A relatively unknown writer named David Sedaris read his "Santaland Diaries" over the airwaves and carved out a niche for himself in the world of holiday marketing. Since, the work of David Sedaris has been broadcast repeatedly on NPR while six of his eight novels have spent time on The New York Times Best Seller List. His personal narratives infused with his trademark sardonic wit make him a wickedly funny writer and highly entertaining speaker. Island ETC is presenting two of Sedaris' holiday monologues: Season's Greetings To Our Friends and Family and The Santaland Diaries, both adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello.
So forget visions of sugarplums and carols sung by the fireplace, Island ETC has an alternative way to keep things jolly this holiday season - irreverent comedy! David Sedaris DOES CHRISTMAS is for theatergoers looking for unique fare this holiday season. It is an evening to take a breather from all the traditional holiday-themed shows and to laugh at our continued efforts to maintain 'holiday cheer.' Season's Greetings and The Santaland Diaries highlight the desperate need that many of us have to display holiday cheer, even if it kills us!
