The Alley Theatre brings back David Sedaris's THE SANTALAND DIARIES.
Directed by David Cromer and adapted for the stage by Joe Mantello, this solo show features Alley Resident Company Member Todd Waite as Crumpet the Elf.
"THE SANTALAND DIARIES has proven wildly popular - due to David Sedaris's unique voice, his brilliant turn of mind, and his singular sardonic gift. His play is tonic, fizzy and tart, and wonderfully funny for those who like their holiday tales with a bit of bite," says Alley Artistic Director Gregory Boyd.
THE SANTALAND DIARIES is the outlandish, and true, chronicles of David Sedaris's experience as a worker in Macy's SantaLand display. This compact, one-character comedy is a hilarious cult classic, featuring comic encounters during the height of the holiday crunch. NPR humorist and best-selling author of Let's Explore Diabetes With Owls, David Sedaris has become one of America's preeminent humorists. (Recommended for mature elves due to language and subject matter.)
Company Member Todd Waite is in his 16th season with the Alley. Waite has appeared in over 75 productions at the Alley, including seven seasons of THE SANTALAND DIARIES, and three productions of SHERLOCK HOLMES. Additional productions include A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM, DRACULA, COMMUNICATING DOORS, PYGMALION, ROCK 'N' ROLL, THE GOAT OR WHO IS SYLVIA and NOISES OFF. He was the resident director for Cirque du Soleil's 'O' in Las Vegas, Artistic Advisor to the 2015 European Games Closing Ceremonies in Baku, and is the Creative Director of Bayou Bend's 2015/2016 Christmas experience. Waite is the sole recipient of the 2014 Presidential Young Arts Award for Acting Teachers.
