The Country Playhouse will present Seussical: The Musical by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty on its Cerwinske main stage for three weekends only, June 14 - 29. The eleven performances are on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m., with Sunday matinees at 2:00 p.m., plus one Saturday matinee on Saturday, June 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Based on characters from several stories by the famed author Dr. Seuss, Seussical has The Cat in the Hat taking a young boy Jojo (and the audience) on the adventures of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing the community of Whos. And it takes off from there with Horton being taunted by the rest of the animal kingdom, until one of the smallest among them saves them all. Seussical opened on Broadway in 2000, and has been a favorite of families and actors ever since.
With direction by Bobby Linhart and musical direction by Claudia Dyle, the cast features Kelly Harkins as The Cat, Mark Frazieras Horton, and Andrew Linhart as Jojo. They are surrounded by many other characters Dr. Seuss created, played on stage byMelissa Ramos, Jessica Rohe, Marc Shellum, Todd Klawitter, Jenny Taylor-Moodie, Tamara Siler, Sofia Eden, Daniel Ewetuya, Olivia DeMichelle, Sam Flash, Christopher Odeku, John Carmona, Rae Lynn Cuddihy, and many more. It's a big show!
Ahrens and Flaherty are a well-known musical composing team. Their Ragtime and Once On This Island have delighted audiences worldwide as well as their music for the feature film Anastasia. Lynn Ahrens is the lyricist of the pair, Stephen Flaherty the composer, and they usually work together on the libretto.
