DOG SEES GOD: CONFESSIONS OF A TEENAGE BLOCKHEAD, by Bert V. Royal, premiered Off-Broadway in 2005. Written as an "unauthorized" parody revolving around the iconic comic strip characters created by Charles M. Schultz, the play is a clever satire focused on the "Peanuts" gang and their adolescent struggles. This dark yet humorous material takes us beyond the playground and into a world of disorders, depression, substance abuse, and questions of sexual identity. Bayou City Theatrics' production of DOG SEES GOD runs October 9 through October 24, at the Kaleidoscope.

Charlie Brown (Austin Heps), who the playwright refers to as CB, and his little sister, a newly "goth" Sally (Brittany Garcia), open the play with a funeral for their beloved childhood dog, Snoopy. Devastated by the tragic loss of his best friend, CB sets off to seek answers about life after death from his friend Van (Travis Ammons), a marijuana-smoking Linus, now sans blanket, and Beethoven (Jonathan Moonen), a bullied and introverted Schroeder. The once-lovable Pig-Pen, has metamorphosed into Matt (Kamran Taherpour), the high school jock, and jerk, who finds joy in harassing and bullying his classmates, particularly Beethoven. The story opens a floodgate of questions about romance, self-defeat, confrontation and identity within all of the Peanuts gang.

Directed by BCT guest artist Sam Martinez, this production focuses on the difficulty of holding on to your childhood identity while transitioning into adulthood. DOG SEES GOD features a supporting cast of local professionals including Erin Connally, Theresa Hunt, and CarrieLee Sparks.

DOG SEES GOD runs October 9 through October 24 on Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 p.m., at Bayou City Theatrics' downtown theatre, The Kaleidoscope (705 Main Street at Capitol, Suite B). Tickets are available at www.BayouCityTheatrics.com, through the box office line at 832.817.8656, or at the door, although BCT encourages purchasing tickets in advance to secure seating in their intimate venue. Convenient cash parking is located less than one block away at the corner of Capitol & Fannin, in the SAKS' garage.

This play is intended for mature audiences only.
