Big River, the Tony Award-winning musical based on Mark Twain's classic Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, opened at Queensbury Theatre on Thursday, March 10, 2016.
Winding its way into hearts in 1985, Big River is the hugely successful musical tale of freedom and redemption. Though trying to stay "respectable," Huckleberry Finn runs into trouble when his father, Pap, returns to town. Huck is forced to fake his own death to escape and joins up with another man on the run - Jim, a slave in the search for freedom. Big River tells the story of Huck and Jim and their journey down the mighty Mississippi.
"Big River is the largest show that we've ever attempted, and I believe that our audience will be impressed with both the production quality and the incredible talent on display as we bring Huck Finn to musical life," said Luke Wrobel, interim artistic director.
Combine a large-scale set designed to mimic the mighty Mississippi, complete with a raft that moves across stage, along with a talented cast of characters, and it's the perfect recipe for a grand-scale musical set in Queensbury's state-of-the-art theater.
Directed by Eric Domuret, the play stars actors Jordi Viscarri (Into the Woods) as Huck and Mark Frazier as Jim, with music and lyrics by country music star
Roger Miller and supported by Sam Balest and Kelly Harkins (Man of La Mancha) as criminal outlaws.
The production is scheduled to run through April 10th, Thursdays - Sundays. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit
