Ripped straight from the tabloid headlines, BAT BOY: The Musical takes a bite out of Texas as The Kaleidoscope Theater opens its first season with the addition of Bruce Lumpkin and Marley Wisnoski to its Creative Staff. BAT BOY: The Musical was the first production at The Kaleidoscope in 2014 and after two years in their beautiful "Off-Broadway" space, the newly redefined company has chosen to remount the musical as they begin a new era of cutting edge theatre in the heart of downtown Houston. BAT BOY will thrill audiences June 24 through July 24.

Set to an infectious score by Laurence O'Keefe (Legally Blonde, Heathers, Reefer Madness) that spans nearly every genre of music from classic Broadway to driving rock, BAT BOY exposes the gritty truth about acceptance and prejudice. Taking a look at family and love through an off-kilter plot filled with zany characters, Houston audiences will gasp, laugh and cry through the nightmarish ride of BAT BOY: The Musical.

Based on a bizarre article published by Weekly World News in 1992, BAT BOY tells the story of a half-boy/half-bat creature who is discovered in a cave near the fictional town of Hope Falls, West Virginia. Madness ensues as the townsfolk investigate a mysterious "cow-killing plague" and its suspicious connections to the bat boy. For lack of a better solution, Sheriff Reynolds brings Bat Boy to the home of the town veterinarian, Dr. Parker, where he is taught to act like a "normal" boy by Dr. Parker's wife, Meredith and their teenage daughter, Shelley.

The bloody musical stars Colton Berry in the title role as well as Brennan Ashley as Meredith Parker, Victoria Riley as Shelley Parker and Brian Chambers as Dr. Thomas Parker. Anna Drake, Tyler Galindo, Luke Hamilton and Savannah Lee stretch their theatrical muscles while filling the shoes of nearly twenty cock-eyed West Virginians. Holding Hope Falls together with reason and logic, Nathan Costella portrays Sheriff Reynolds. Directed by Founding Artistic Director Colton Berry, with music direction by Jane Volke and choreography by Luke Hamilton, BAT BOY is a hilarious and unexpectedly heartwarming night at the theater!

BAT BOY: The Musical runs June 24 through July 24 at The Kaleidoscope Theater, located at 705 Main Street, Suite B (entrance on Capitol). Performances are Friday and Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 5:00 pm. Tickets are available at www.tkthouston.com as well as at the door, although patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance to secure seating in the intimate venue. Convenient cash parking is located less than one block away at the corner of Capitol & Fannin, in the SAKS' garage. Questions may be directed to TKT@tkthouston.com or by phone at 832-817-8656.
