Alley Theatre Breaks Ground on $46.5 Million Renovation Today

The groundbreaking ceremony for the Alley Theatre's historic downtown building as the theatre undergoes its first major renovation since its opening in 1968 is set for today, July 8, 2014.

Roger Plank, Co-chairman of the Alley Theatre Capital Campaign, shatters a column on the Hubbard Stage of the Alley Theatre with a sledge hammer, signifying the beginning of the Alley's $46.5 million renovation.

As the Alley Theatre undergoes this year-long renovation, all 2014-2015 season performances will be held at the University of Houston's main campus. Construction on the Alley Theatre building will begin in July 2014 and will continue through the summer of 2015, with the grand opening of the renovated Alley Theatre scheduled for October 2015.
