A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, sets the stage for "You Can't Take It With You" at the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater (George Theater). Originally performed in 1936 on Broadway, the Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, will run May 5 - 28.

"We are excited to bring this comedic classic to our stage," said Jeannette Clift George, A.D. Players' founder and artistic director. "'You Can't Take It With You' is the best kind of comedy -- one that teaches us a few lessons in tolerance amid the laughter. I encourage all ages to come, sit back, and enjoy the fun

"You Can't Take It With You" tells the story of Alice Sycamore, who comes from a family of lovable eccentrics, and her fiancé, Tony Kirby, one of a long line of impeccably well-mannered aristocrats. When Alice invites her perspective in-laws for dinner, she hopes for the best. Instead, her family behaves at its hilarious worst.

Tom Prior, the director, is the Department Associate Chair Professor of Theatre for Sam Houston State University. He has also been a professional actor for the past 23 years. A Houston native, Lindsay Ehrhardt, who plays Alice, received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre Performance from Baylor University. She recently performed in Main Street Theater's Theater for Youth productions of The Cat in the Hat and The Magic School Bus. Marty Blair will play Tony Kirby. This will be Blair's 15th role in multiple productions with the A.D. Players.

The Jeannette and L.M. George Theater is located at 5420 Westheimer. Tickets can be purchased here or by calling the George Theater Box Office at 713.526.2721. Tickets start at $24 with discounted rates available for group sales.

The next A.D. Players' performance will be "Godspell," a musical based on the Gospel of Matthew, opening July 21.

Founded in 1967 by Jeannette Clift George, A.D. Players pioneered a unique style of theater committed to producing plays and programs that uphold human value, offer creativity, and promote literacy and education. The company is one of Houston's largest resident theater companies, impacting more than nine million people over its lifetime. Annually, the company produces Mainstage and Children's Theater performances, fields a Regional Touring Unit, and maintains a year-round Theater Arts Academy. AD Players is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization.
